Eleanor Longden speaks about how the voices she started hearing because of her schizophrenia revealed what her needs were. So she learnt to listen to them and interpret them rather than try to fight them off. This takes us away from the habitual way of looking at mental health difficulties which sees the latter as something that needs to be fixed in order to live a normal life. Instead, mental health issues can actually be trying to show us a deeper reality of ourselves.
